BMS World Mission: Ecuador

Three new believers were baptised on the site of what is to become the new location of Los Vergeles Baptist Church in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

On 14 November, BMS reported on the new building project in Los Vergeles saying that three mothers – all of whom started attending the church because of their children’s involvement in the PEPE pre-school education programme – were going to be baptised at an inauguration service on the new site.

Pete and Vicki Butchers, BMS mission personnel who work as church planters in Los Vergeles, said, “More than 50 people from the community, most of whom do not attend the church here, witnessed these mothers giving their powerful testimonies before being baptised.”

Los Vergeles

The church in Los Vergeles is officially known as a ‘mission’ church – the status given to church plants that have not yet obtained the 50 members needed for ‘church-level’ recognition by the Baptist Convention of Ecuador.

However, thanks to the help of UK Christians, the church Los Vergeles is now be able to begin raising the money needed for construction of their new building.

The Butchers say, “The steps we are taking to establish a church in Los Vergeles are part of a process that we hope can be replicated by other Christian bodies here in Ecuador.”
